Every day, millions of people buy meat believing that they are bringing home a fresh, healthy and good quality product. However, what many do not know is that in supermarkets, butchers and even restaurants, deception is practiced that can put your health and your pocket at risk.
Most alarmingly, these tricks go unnoticed by most consumers.
The great deception: meat that is NOT what it seems
One of the most common frauds is selling:
=
Don’t be fooled. They’re selling you meat from Part #2
Old meat like it’s fresh
Thawed meat sold as “freshly sliced”
Low-quality meat disguised as premium
Meat treated with chemicals to improve its color and odor
Even, in some extreme cases, meat mixtures that do not correspond to what the label says
Many times, the meat you buy has been in storage for days or weeks, but is “revived” to look like a new arrival.
How do they make up meat?
To deceive the consumer, very common practices are used:
Don’t be fooled. Part #3
Washed with substances that eliminate bad odor temporarily
The problem is that the appearance is deceiving, but the meat has already lost nutrients and can develop dangerous bacteria.
Real risks to your health
Consuming spoiled or handled meat can cause:
Food poisoning
Bacterial infections (Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria)
Stomach aches, diarrhea, and vomiting
Long-term, digestive and inflammatory problems
The worst thing is that many people do not associate their symptoms with the meat they consumed days before.
Clear signs that meat is NOT fresh
Before buying or cooking, take a good look:
Gray, brown, or dull color
Strong or slightly acidic odor
Slimy or sticky texture
Excess liquid in the packaging
Ice crystals (pre-freeze signal)
If you notice a single one of these signs, don’t buy or consume it
